When kids experience the YMCA Day Camp, they experience something new every day like the power of a positive mentor, the confidence that comes from trying…and succeeding, and the importance of healthy, long-lasting friendships. Of course, they don’t know this. They just think they’re having a whole lot of fun.

The Bedford Area Family YMCA is introducing a new membership category beginning this May that will help graduating high school seniors and full-time college students that live away from the Bedford Area during the school year, continue on a healthy lifestyle by providing services at an affordable rate. The new College Membership will allow students that live too far away during the school year, to workout during the summer, fall, winter and spring breaks without having the pay for the months away at school. The College Membership will go on sale May 1 but can be purchased at anytime during the year. The new category is for any person that is enrolled full-time at any college or university that is away from the Bedford area. All students need to do is to present their class schedule for the coming semester and Y personnel with take care of the other details.

No Joiner Fee
M membership is good for one year May-May
$100 per year and there is no pro-rating.

The Lieutenant Governors' Challenge is a 12-week reward based program. Participants may choose to work toward heart health through fitness choices, health choices, or both. You can earn fitness points by doing everyday activities like walking or housework. Or, you may also use the Challenge to meet and manage your personal nutrition goals. Making nutritious food choices earns points towards a medal. At the end of the 12-week period, each person who meets the points goals receives a medal.

The Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA) and the Department of Defense are launching a new $31-million initiative with the Department of Defense (DoD) to provide eligible military families and active duty personnel with access to youth development, family strengthening, and health and well-being programs through memberships at community YMCAs nationwide. Membership fees will be underwritten by the DoD and administered through Military OneSource. Eligible participants can sign up at the Bedford Are Family YMCA.

Eligible military families and personnel include:

• Family members of deployed National Guard and Reservists
• Active Duty Independent Duty personnel and their families as approved by their Military Service Headquarters
• Relocated spouses and family members of deployed Active Duty personnel
